Annual Report

Message from Chairperson

We are pleased to report that 1999-2000 has been a year of tremendous growth and success for the Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation.

On January 19, 2000, we dedicated an echocardiography machine to the Region 7 Hospital Corporation.  Once the need was identified, the Rotary Clubs of the Miramichi and the former Friends of the Miramichi Hospital donated the funds to purchase the echo machine totaling $250,000.  Before this time, 1500 patients per year had to travel to other centres to have this procedure performed.

At our second annual gala on January 22, 2000, we received $1 million from the Friends of the Miramichi Hospital, whose Board ceased operation at that time.  We are extremely grateful to be the recipient of the Hutchison Trust Fund, originally established in 1918 for the former Miramichi Hospital.  The stipulations of this trust fund ensures on-going support in the future for healthcare.

On April 18, 2000, the Foundation Board agreed to meet the challenge of raising $1 million to fund the construction of an MRI docking facility; purchase of nuclear medicine equipment; and the purchase of a bone densitometry unit.  We intend to educate the public on these services and hope to have the continued support of the local service clubs, memorial donations, and the community at large.

We feel that it is of utmost importance to keep people in their community to receive the healthcare services they require.

I would like to thank the volunteer Board of Directors who have worked so diligently throughout the year to make our efforts so successful.

Respectfully submitted,

 Leon Bremner,

Chairperson
